I am a bit surprised that I didn't find about this firsthand, being that I am a regular at mixx.com. Such is life I guess, well on to the news.
Mixx is an up and coming social news site that is simple to use, an uncluttered clean interface and has a great group of members that participate on the site.
According to TechCrunch, Mixx will be launching a new feature this week called 'related items' that will reduce the number of duplicate submissions. The related items feature will group news stories together. Digg and other similar sites have neglected to implement such a feature and many stories are overlooked because of duplicity. This can make it difficult for high quality submissions to make it to the front page and often times users are split on which to vote for.

A related items feature should reduce duplicated and consolidate similar stories thus making it easier for the reader to manage their news.
Techmeme has had such a feature for quite a while and allows for more items to appear (together) on the front page. This makes for easier reading and less confusion for users.
While Mixx.com is not a leader in social news, it is gaining ground and is gaining a large number of new users on a daily basis.
While the above graph is for a one month period you will notice that Mixx.com is steadily gaining ground while Digg and Reddit are losing ground. I don't think it will be very long before Mixx is up at the top with their competitors and as more people discover the advantages of Mixx, the others will steadily lose traction.
As always I would enjoy reading your comments on Mixx's new related items feature!
